Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you might want to know about the service, the specialists, and what to expect.

Is the quote really free?

Yes. The introduction, the site survey and the quote are all free. There's no obligation to proceed, and no upfront cost for the quote itself.

How are specialists vetted?

We check public liability insurance (£2m+), trade accreditations (FENSA, CHAS, SafeContractor, Constructionline), evidence of recent commercial work, references from previous clients, and Companies House standing. Vetting is reviewed annually.

How quickly will a specialist contact me?

Standard enquiries typically get a response within one working day. Emergencies (board-up, stuck shutter, smashed glass) usually within 2–4 hours in cities and same-day elsewhere.

Can I get multiple quotes?

Yes. For larger projects we'd encourage you to compare two or three quotes. Indicate this in the project details when you submit your enquiry.

What areas do you cover?

England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland — over 180 towns and cities. If you're outside our usual coverage areas, submit an enquiry anyway and we'll do our best to find a specialist.

Are specialists local to my area?

Yes — we match enquiries to specialists serving your postcode rather than nationals who'd travel. That said, for highly specialist work (e.g. listed building restoration in a remote area), the right specialist might come from further afield.

What happens if I'm not happy with the specialist?

Contact us. We take feedback seriously and use it as part of our annual vetting review. We'll also help you find an alternative specialist if needed.

Do you sell my data to third parties?

No. Your enquiry is shared with vetted specialists for the purpose of providing quotes — that's the only purpose. We don't sell data to marketing lists or third parties outside the matching process. See our privacy policy for full details.

How is this different from rating sites like Checkatrade?

Rating sites publish many providers and let the user filter. We do the filtering ourselves, only listing specialists who pass our vetting, and we route enquiries directly to them. It's narrower but the quality bar is higher.

How much should I budget for a roller shutter?

For a standard 3m × 3m commercial roller shutter, expect £1,200–£2,500 supplied and fitted. Larger or specialist shutters scale from there. See our shutter cost guide for detail.

How much should I budget for a new shopfront?

Aluminium shopfronts typically start around £4,000 for small retail units; full-glass and timber heritage shopfronts run £8,000–£20,000+ depending on size and specification. See our shopfront cost guide.

Do I need planning permission for a new shopfront?

Usually yes — most shopfront replacements require planning permission, particularly in conservation areas or on listed buildings. The specialist will handle the application as part of the project.

Can specialists do emergency work?

Yes — emergency board-up and shutter repair is one of the most common request types. Most specialists respond within 2–4 hours in cities.

Are quotes legally binding?

A written quote is typically binding for a defined period (usually 30 days) on the terms specified. Verbal quotes are not binding. Always get the quote in writing before agreeing to work.
